Camping anyone?

Joey decided that he wanted to go camping for his birthday this year. (Sept. 25) We went to Aguirre Springs State Park just outside of Las Cruces the Sunday before and decided that this was the place. Not only close to home but convenient if the weather turned sour on us. Aguirre Springs is on the other side of the Organ Mountains about 10 miles from town. Giant SunflowerBeing so close to Las Cruces, I found it amazing that we had such beautiful country in our own backyard.
We have started out on the Piney Trail (4.5 miles) several times in the past and had to turn back for various reasons. This time we vowed to finish if it killed us, and it almost did!
Although we took plenty of water along for our journey and rested frequently, it was our body's that took the toll. Mommy and I are not as young and fit as we used to be. All in all, we made the entire trip, save the last 500 yards. Joey got to camp first and brought his car to pick us up. I think I could have made it but Mommy was pooped and really appreciated the ride.
Beautiful Country
It was such a beautiful day when we started out on our hike. Warm but not too hot. An Indian Summer day. We saw so many beautiful views of the Organs. Starting out on our hike.Even though Las Cruces is in the desert, not 3000 feet above us lies a beautiful alpine forest. We were so excited to hear the sound of running water as we came around a hairpin turn in the trail. The sound of the water and the gentle breeze in the pines was so relaxing. I had a blast taking pictures of everything I came across. Flowers, plants, moss, rocks. You name it and I took a picture of it.

Sarah and Jessica had legs like gazelles. They stayed ahead of the pack throughout the whole trip. We would catch up and they would take off. They wore us out! Cool, clear water, waterWe still had a great time even though we couldn't move for an hour or so after we returned to camp.
Early Saturday morning, Samantha called Mommy on her cell phone to let us know that she was taking Scott to the hospital. He was complaining of stomach pains again and sick to his stomach. His Crohn's was acting up. We decided that there was nothing we could do at that time so we waited until the next morning to decide whether or not we would pack up and go home. Needless to say, we stayed until Sunday morning. If you want to see more pictures of the trip click here.
